1. Where did you go the last time you took an airplane ride?
CANADA :D It was a great time. I went to visit L&E and their tiny perfect bleb. The flight out was lovely, the flight back a little full but I slept a lot.
2. Are you a nervous flyer or a comfortable flyer?
Comfortable, and even though I've got to do it a lot since I was tiny, I still love a lot of things about it, mainly being totally cut off from the rest of the world. (I'm actually sorry wifi on planes is becoming more common, but at least while it's a paid add-on rather than free I have enough impulse control that it doesn't affect me yet.) I love choosing my reading material, and making sure I have plenty of choice, and enough to last the flight(s).
I have recently started having weird thoughts particularly at take-off about what a CRAZY THING flying is for humans to do, which I'm side-eyeing my brain for pretty hard, but mostly I can shrug them off. I have also been known to fall asleep before and then sleep through take-off if I'm tired enough.
3. Window seat or aisle seat?
Window window window. Not only is the view a good time, but it's so much easier to sleep with the wall to lean against and wriggle around next to, and every bit of extra room helps. Also I have no fucks to give about asking to get up to pee. Like I'm not a dick about it, but I also don't get anxiety about doing it when I need to. It's way more annoying getting up for others, make of that what you will. ;D
4. What is the worst experience you've had flying?
Hmm. There was the time when I was 10, looked out the window, saw the wing was on fire, and then there was an announcement we were turning back around due to a fault with the plane, but tbh that was mostly exciting. (We then got stuck inside Athens airport for hours because by border control's lights, we'd cleared customs and left the country, which was frustrating for my mother given we lived walking distance from the airport. Eventually, they took most people off to hotels, but we walked home and went to bed. V anti-climactic. We walked back to the airport later and were squeezed onto other flights the next day.)
Or the time I was flying back from Greece with my younger siblings age approx 16 and my visa had run out (this was pre Greek passport, thanks parents) and I had to explain to immigration that no, we all live here, it's OK, and the guy kept calling me Mrs and assuming my siblings were my kids.
Or the time I flew with a head cold and thought my brain was going to burst and then had blocked ears for a week afterwards. I've definitely flown in various types of pain before, it's always a p bad time as while flying is fun, it's not very COMFORTABLE, so period pain, muscle aches, or illness definitely make it worse.
I've been with people while they had their worst experience flying but while it was upsetting to see people you love upset, it wasn't MY worst experience if that makes sense, I just wish they hadn't had to live through it. All of which are very mild, tbh, so I count myself lucky.
(So saying, the time I ran out of reading material before I'd got to the first stopover en route to NZ, where we didn't clear customs so I couldn't go buy more, and the flight was full of noisy obnoxious wankers off to the rugby world cup was quite a trial.)
5. What is the best experience you've had flying?
Oooh. I've had flights to NZ where I've had a whole row to myself by the window, that's always good. I've flown first class once, and that was quite fun, but the company was a little stressful and I had a lot of high, ultimately unrealised expectations, so not AS fun as it could've been, though definitely very spacious and comfotable. Probably the two times I've flown a small plane by myself in NZ but not sure if that counts. Small commercial planes are always novel. Flying into London City for the first time last year was everything I wanted it to be. Landing in Auckland and knowing you only have that short hop to Wellington left is always a good feeling, as is seeing Wellington come into view, particularly when I knew I had the pup waiting at the end. Flying Xmas day was fun. Any time you get a row to yourself for a long haul flight, really. It just feels so decadent. Empty flights FTW. Nothing leaps out though.
